The criteria I'd make for cool would be, a car someone would really want, like they'd see it drive by and think "I am going to buy that one day", or a car someone would have a poster of in their cubicle/bedroom. Like an American Muscle Car such as a Mustang, or a Luxury car, such as a Rolls-Royce or an exotic sports car like a Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porsche
So what 'cool' cars would you say your family owns or has owned? I thought of this when I realised nobody in my family actually has owned anything worth noting.
My Grandfather owned a 1987 Pontiac Trans Am GTA after seeing K.I.T.T. on Knight Rider and kept it for about 2 years. My mother and uncle could barely fit in the car, but my Grandpa loved it. It wasn't until 1989 when he went to visit family that some drunk teenagers in a Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme smashed into the door and front wheel arch making the car permanently immobile. After that my Grandpa moved on to less interesting cars such as a Pontiac Bonneville ('89), Pontiac Grand Prix ('95), Mercedes ML350 ('99) and '09 Mazda CX9. He ironically bought his wife a '96 Cutlass Supreme.
My Father currently owns a 2004 Z4 2.5i, but I don't find it cool enough, I feel like the Z4 M would be 'cool enough'.
Edit: Also for a funny image, my Grandpa looked like a young Ghandi with wavy hair in the late 80s.

Coolest car in the family? New Beetle 1.8T 5spd. My father has a Miata, but it's an auto NC. Really nothing noteworthy, no one else interested in projects or classics but me...

My uncle used to own a Volkswagen Thing. I would've bought it when I had the money, but shockingly he's not actually a gear-head. He now owns a Chevrolet Cruze and sold the Thing about a decade ago. This is one of those things I wistfully dream about.

my dad had an MGB, a 62 Buick, and a 39 and 46 Caddy when I was growing up. He's into motorcycles now. My uncle allegedly has a 67 Cuda formula s that he's owned since new, but I've never seen it. The last I heard he was in the middle of restoring it, but he's been restoring it since the 90's lol. No one has anything cool now :(

He now also DD's an E39 M5.

As for car we own now? Not that much I'm afraid... My Stepdad have a 2012 Lexus GS450h...
Previous cars though.. THAT's something else.. Both my dad and I have had a Citroën CX 25 GTI Turbo. I've owned a NSU Ro 80 and a Mk2 Golf GTi 16v. I've also owned a BMW 528i (E28, was a shitty car). But I guess most of those cars only count if you were a kid in the eighties... in Europe :)

It's funny, just seeing those two cars together on the screen, I think of my dad. I rode around in that Z to little league practice, doctor's appointments, everything until I was 16.
Then, it was that M5. The interior in those is just as handsome as the exterior, and that's saying something. I also love the M5 because it gave me a warning when he got home: I could hear that V8 rumbling in the garage!

I think my '49 Jeep is pretty cool, but it can't hold a candle to my mom's 1968 Pontiac GTO. It's waiting restoration in storage. Dad's cool car isn't a car, but is a 2005 Kawasaki ZZR1200. He's got a brotruck too, but we don't talk about that.

I drive the A5 whenever I'm home. I love that friggin car, the only way to improve it is moar power and a 3rd pedal. It looks the business, it's ungodly comfortable. The seating position is incredible and the cockpit layout is damn near perfect. It makes me want an Audi someday, and almost wish I had a GTi instead of my Sonic.

I'll tell you right now, that Citroën was a BEAST when new, 220km/h (137mph) was FAST in 1984. I had the '85 with ABS... I can't remember for sure, but I think it had 160-170 HP from the factory, My car had 210 thanks to some tweaks..

My dad tells of how in college, he bought a 1973 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham D'Elegance, identical to this one , but blue, for about $200 (this was in the eighties). One of his fraternity brothers was from England, studying in the U.S., and wanted nothing more that to road trip across the States in a big American land yacht. And he got the biggest land yacht of them all, which six of them took on a big summer break road trip before my dad sold the car, which he bought specifically for use over just that summer. It had the 502ci V8, so burnouts were mandatory at all stop lights.

They where apparently in the US pre 1974, which is way way before my time (A year before my mother's time) , and they got banned for not meeting safety regulations. I've never seen an Alfa, Lancia (My grandpa did work for Lancia though), Skoda, and so on. They all pulled out of North america and never came back. Maybe Alfa coming back to NA might spark interest for these companies. I don't think Citreon is allowed back though.

Where to start.. My grandpa had a 57 Belair at one point..Parents have toled me of numerous other cool cars my elderly family has had, but far to many for me to remember, my dad has had Blazers, Camaro's, and atm a 14' Mustang GT, and a 07 Impalla SS, one step brother has 2 old school lifted Dodge trucks as well as a new Challenger, the other has had a Alteza (he is currently living in Japan) and he had a Land Rover defender as well as a UK spec E36 M3 while living in the UK, and when he was in the US, he had heavily sought after Kawasaki Ninja the he made 10 k on when he sold it, my step sister has a newer Mustang, her husband has a newer Benz 2
My Ride: '93 Mustang LX My Cousin's 2008 Bullitt: 2
Wish i had a cool family. 1
My dad's first car was a '40s Willys Jeep (in the early '70s) painted bright blue, and he had a '63 MG B in college. Also had a VW Scirocco at one point. He's had quite an assortment of cars since then, some very nice and some very boring, but nothing quite as "cool" as those. I have a fairly pristine E46 M3...that's not bad right? 1
I don't have any pictures of the actual cars, but these pictures are the same model and color, so deal with it. Chevy Monte Carlo SS row-your-own with a 350 Sold due to practicality issues, replaced with a Chevy Lumina: Chevy Malibu wagon with a built 350 and four-speed (?) auto that would easily lift up the front wheels. Four-speed autotragic. Faded paint made it a great sleeper. Sold for practicality reasons, eventually replaced with a 2005 Passatt TDI wagon: 1992 Chevy Lumina 4dr. It was chevy's NASCAR in the early 90s and had 300,000 miles on it, so that makes it cool... right? Junked because the rear main transmission seal broke and given the miles it had on it we didn't feel like fixing it. Paint was a peeling, faded mess but it would haul like a freight train and sounded pretty nifty for a V6. Replaced with a Buick Le Sabre 2000: My mom had one of these. Don't know much about it but it was too impractical for a lower-middle-class family so it had to go, sadly. I'd love to buy her one as a gift someday: Wow, Kinja's editor is such a piece of arse. It took me a good 15 minutes to type this between it refusing to let me type, huge text-box-borders popping up and turning text into objects or somesuch, and scrolling me to random parts of the page for no goddamn reason. Ugh. 0
I want a FC Rx7 so bad, white specifically. But I don't think they sold them in Canada, I have only ever seen first-gen RX7s 1
all of those sounds awesome D: and most of them put my grandpa's Firebird to shame 0
one of these days I will have an E39 M5, one of these days! 1
holy shi- so Those look awesome! I love the paint on both, espeically the Bullit 1
I come by my petrolheadedness honestly. 1
I find it hilarous that you go from a civic si, and panel van to a XJ6. 1
there were cars in between. I went from a '90 civic hatch to a manual '92 or 3 ford explorer, to the '00 si, the panel, a 96 escort (free car), a 98 outback, and now the jaaag. 1
2
Dad's. Also dad's. 0
because rallycar 0
I have a question, how is the e39 on gas? I plan to buy one at some point, probably within the next 5 years if nothing happens to my camry and i can afford/find one. But im going from a hybrid camry to a v8 monster. 1
Thanks man!! We love some green! The Bullitt is nice as hell too. I got to drive it around to pick him and his wife up at his wedding! Absolutely epic. 1
I have to say, my dad has owned some pretty awesome cars. He started with a 1967 Porsche 912 Between the time he got rid of the 912 until now he's had a '67 Porsche 911S, a '71 Ford Ranchero GT (with a 4speed), 1973 Porsche 911T, 1974? Porsche 914, 1973 BMW 2002tii, 1972 Pontiac LeMans, and a 1990 Ford Taurus SHO. Currently he has a light yellow 1976 911S and a pearl white '07 Subaru Impreza wagon. Overall I'd say he has a pretty cool car history. 1
My mom had an A6 ages ago, I think early 2000s. All I remember about it was thinking the red LED digits on the console were cool. She replaced it with a G35 sedan, and tat ended up being totaled in an accident and was replaced by an Accord. I think she missed audi, and she wanted something more interesting now that practicality isn't an issue (empty nester) 0
It's not as bad as you might think - depending on what you might think. If you don't drive like a maniac, it gets high teens in the gas mileage, like 18 or 19. 0
Pretty much, only real difference is it's mounted transverse rather than longitudinal. 0
What Colorado said. It's the 150HP variant, which was upgraded to 180 in 2003. With a few tweaks, it makes the same power. 0
Ah okay. Because I drive an '03 Audi A4 1.8T, which I do believe is rated for (as you say) 180hp. 0
Has owned? My mom's first car, bought new, was a '68 Mustang coupe. Dad passed away in September, so in going through pictures and his 'stuff', I found pictures of a Torino Talladega Cobra Jet that he had owned, a '65 Mustang fastback, Plymouth GTX, Ford Elite (luxory Torino), and a few other ones that escape me right now. My cousin has a couple of Edsels (1958 and 1960), a 1969 Mach 1 and a 1970 Mach 1. His daily driver is a 2004 Mustang GT. I've had a string of Fox bodies, including a 1982 GT, 1985 SVO, an 1989 Mustang couple which started out as a 2.3L/Auto, then 2.3L/Manual, then 2.3T/Manual, then 5.0L(carbed)/Manual, and finally, 347 stroker on the bottle. When that got smashed, the driveline was swapped into a Ford Fairmont wagon. I'm currently cool car-less, but I do have my dad's Harley, a Suzuki DR650 and next year, I'd like to find another Buell... 1
My parents have had all sorts of cool cars. My dad bought a 66 Mustang in 1968. Straight six. He blew the engine up and built a Boss 302 in the garage with one of his friends, and that car ran consistent 11 second passes at Englishtown. I still have spare parts for that engine sitting around. He had a 72 Mustang, and a 1991 Mustang Cobra. My mom's first car was a Plymouth Satellite with a 426. They bought a 1984 Thunderbird, new, with a 302 that eventually became my first car. My highschool job paid for beer, and tires. 1
Back in 1960...my parents owned a 56 Ford Fairlane that was an ex-cop car. I don't remember it (I was 1 year old), but she used to take me street racing. My dad was in the Navy stationed in Cuba, so he didn't get to go along:-) 1
my mom has a 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Sedan 6-spd. It shares garage space with a 1958 Corvette convertible and a 1991 Corvette ZR-1. 0
It seats seven, has three pedals and is RWD. Is NOT a SUV....in fact, it's got an inline four sitting the "right" way up front...?...any guesses? Ya, it's our old (OLD) Volvo 245. Built like a tank, starts and drives every time. We've also got a Crosscountry with the turbo five and AWD. Love em!! But the coolest thing in my garage has two wheels.... 1
My Dad drives a 2009 Audi S8. Because 5.2L V10! 0
My Grandfather had a VW Type 2 0
That '69 is impressive. Reminds me a lot of the Anvil Auto Mustang.
